Michael C Adams is an experienced intellectual property attorney who advises clients on the procurement, evaluation, enforcement, and management of patents and trademarks. With more than 20 years of IP practice at his firm, he works closely with businesses to protect innovations across a broad range of technologies, offering practical guidance aligned with commercial goals.
Michael earned his degree in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan, graduating cum laude. He also earned his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Wayne State University Law School. He is admitted to practice in the State of Michigan, before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Michael’s practice spans electrical, electro-mechanical, mechanical, and software-related technologies. He has prepared and prosecuted numerous utility and design patent applications involving advanced systems such as hybrid and electric vehicles, autonomous vehicle technologies, laser welding applications, vehicle ignition systems, metal fabrication, wiring harnesses, sound-damping materials, industrial switches, and package handling systems.
In addition to patent prosecution, Michael has extensive experience managing large, complex patent portfolios and monitoring competitors’ portfolios. He regularly supports clients with strategic portfolio development and long-term IP planning. Before entering private practice, he gained hands-on engineering experience at Delphi Corporation, where he held multiple roles, providing him with valuable industry insight.
Michael C Adams has been recognized as a Michigan Super Lawyers® Rising Star and an IP Star by Managing Intellectual Property. He is an active member of intellectual property law associations and has served on his firm’s Management Committee as vice president in charge of personnel.
