Michael Bartol

Michael Bartol is a partner at Bose McKinney & Evans LLP and advises clients on intellectual property law matters chairing the firm’s intellectual property group, involving patent prosecution, patent litigation, trade secrets, trademarks, copyrights, and technology. He works across technical areas that include biosensors, medical devices, computer-assisted surgery, engines, transmissions, orthopedic implants, chemical compositions, small molecules, and molding technologies. He is also registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, supporting clients in effectively protecting and enforcing their valuable innovations and intellectual property assets.

Michael earned his J.D., summa cum laude, from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 1997. He earned his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from The Pennsylvania State University in 1985. Before law school, he worked as an engineer for the US Army in chemical warfare defense. He also owned and operated two businesses before becoming an attorney, giving him practical experience with technical operations and complex business decision-making.

Michael assists clients with patent prosecution and disputes while also handling trade secret, trademark, and copyright matters. He brings an engineering background to legal issues involving complex technologies and technical evidence. He regularly lectures on intellectual property topics for legal and academic audiences, including programs associated with Indiana University, Purdue University, and the Indiana State Bar Association.
