About
Michael Alerding is an Indianapolis attorney who focuses on business transactions, complex civil litigation, and bankruptcy matters. He advises privately and publicly held companies, entrepreneurs, and individuals on a broad range of business law issues. His practice includes serving as legal counsel and a strategic partner to clients as they evaluate transactions, address disputes, and manage financial or operational challenges that require practical legal guidance.
Alerding earned a B.A. in journalism from Indiana University in 1993 and a J.D., cum laude, from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 1997. His academic training developed a foundation in research, communication, legal analysis, and disciplined problem solving. Those skills support his ability to explain complicated issues clearly, assess legal and business risks, and help clients make informed decisions.
Before assuming his current role, Alerding was a partner at two Indianapolis law firms. He also founded a business that he led and co-operated for 15 years. This combination of legal and entrepreneurial experience gives him firsthand insight into the concerns of business owners and executives. He draws on that background when counseling clients on business transactions, complex litigation, bankruptcy, workouts, creditors’ rights, and other matters involving commercial risk.
Michael Alerding was named to IBJ’s Forty Under 40 in 2010 and was recognized by Indiana Super Lawyers from 2016 through 2018. He is admitted to practice in all Indiana state courts and before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana. His practice combines legal experience with a business owner’s perspective, helping clients approach complicated matters with careful analysis, practical judgment, and an understanding of real-world commercial priorities.
