Merrily Munther

Merrily Munther is an Idaho employment lawyer who represents management, businesses, and organizations in workplace and commercial matters. She advises employers on policies, handbooks, hiring, discipline, harassment, discrimination, wage issues, leave requirements, and union concerns. Her practice also covers civil litigation, administrative proceedings, real estate, construction, business law, probate, mediation, and arbitration. She helps clients evaluate legal risks, resolve disputes, and make informed operational decisions.

Merrily studied at the University of Stockholm. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Swedish from the University of Washington in 1968. She received her Juris Doctor from the University of Idaho in 1976. She also served as Editor-in-Chief of the Idaho Law Review. She joined the Idaho State Bar on September 24, 1976. Her academic training strengthened her research, writing, leadership, and analytical skills.

Merrily worked in Industrial Indemnity’s legal department before serving as secretary to the Idaho House Judiciary Committee in 1973. She later completed legal internships with Boise Cascade Corporation and Ferguson & Burdell. From 1976 through 1983, she handled employment, real estate, banking, and mining matters at a Boise law firm. She later practiced independently and established her current firm under predecessor names in 1992. Her experience also includes serving as a hearing officer and mediator in employment-related disputes.

Merrily Munther has earned an AV rating and recognition from Chambers USA for her labor and employment work. She has also received Super Lawyers recognition for business litigation across multiple years. Her publications and lectures address wrongful discharge, wage and hour law, employee handbooks, discrimination, and workplace safety. She previously led the Idaho Law Foundation, Fourth District Bar Association, and National Conference of Bar Foundations. Her professional service reflects decades of leadership in Idaho’s legal community.
