Mel C. Orchard, III is a lawyer and partner at The Spence Law Firm, LLC, focused on personal injury and civil rights law. His practice includes motor vehicle accidents, trucking accidents, industrial and workplace injuries, wrongful death, product liability, civil rights, and medical malpractice. He has tried cases across the United States and has secured substantial verdicts and settlements during more than three decades of practice. His courtroom work includes cases in Wyoming, Utah, Arizona, Iowa, and other jurisdictions.

Mel earned his B.S. in finance from Washington State University before attending the University of Wyoming College of Law. He received his J.D. from the University of Wyoming and served as president of the law school’s student government. His legal education prepared him for a career centered on civil trial litigation and courtroom advocacy.

Mel is certified in Civil Trial Practice by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. His professional affiliations include the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, International Society of Barristers, American College of Trial Lawyers, Inner Circle of Advocates, and Summit Council. He has served on the Board of Governors for the American Association for Justice and as president of the Wyoming Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates.

Mel C. Orchard, III has devoted part of his career to legal education and pro bono service. He has served as a senior faculty member at the Trial Lawyers College and is a founding member of Trial School. His work further includes volunteer service through Lawyers and Advocates for Wyoming and other organizations. He continues to combine nationwide trial work with teaching and professional leadership in civil trial advocacy.
