About
McClain Schonekas brings a diverse background in litigation and commercial transactions to his legal practice. He has represented clients in cases involving business disputes, contracts, decommissioning liability, insurance bad faith, lease disagreements, and disciplinary and administrative proceedings. His experience extends to both state and federal courts, where he has handled trials and transactions for buyers, sellers, and lenders in significant commercial matters.
McClain began his academic journey at the University of Georgia, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration in 2007 with a major in Real Estate and a minor in Art History. Following his undergraduate studies, he built early experience in real estate finance and development while working in North Carolina and New York. He later joined a major commercial bank’s investment division, focusing on commercial mortgage-backed securities and historic and low-income tax credit investments. His growing interest in law led him to pursue a J.D./G.D.C.L. from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University, graduating magna cum laude in 2014. During his time there, he was honored as a member of the Order of the Coif and served as a Senior Editor of the Louisiana Law Review.
McClain began his legal career at a large Louisiana-based law firm, where he gained valuable insight into commercial litigation. His pursuit of judicial experience led him to clerk for the Honorable Edith Brown Clement at the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit from 2015 to 2016. This role strengthened his analytical skills and deepened his understanding of complex appellate matters, preparing him for a wide range of legal challenges in both trial and appellate contexts.
McClain Schonekas continues to build a respected reputation as a strategic and skilled advocate, known for his balanced approach to commercial and litigation matters. His background in finance, development, and law uniquely positions him to deliver informed and effective representation to his clients.
