Matthew earned a J.D. from Stanford Law School, where he served as Executive Editor of the Stanford Law Review and worked as a Research Assistant to Prof. Marc A. Franklin. Before law school, he attended the University of Texas at Austin, earning a Ph.D., M.A., and B.A. in Sociology of Law and Criminology. His dissertation examined expert witnesses in federal civil litigation. He also worked on the Consumer Bankruptcy Project.
Matthew began his legal career as a judicial clerk for Chief Justice Nathan L. Hecht of the Texas Supreme Court. He then joined the appellate practice group at a major law firm, where he spent more than 10 years handling a wide range of appeals. He worked closely with trial teams, providing critical support before, during, and after trial. After gaining this broad experience, he opened his own appellate practice. He is admitted to practice before the Texas Supreme Court, Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
