About

Matthew M. Beck is a shareholder and trial lawyer at Peifer, Hanson, Mullins & Baker, P.A., who handles white-collar criminal defense, internal investigations, complex commercial litigation, professional liability, and personal injury lawsuits and disputes. He represents companies and individuals facing government investigations, criminal prosecutions, business disputes, oil and gas litigation, and serious injury claims. He has represented plaintiffs and defendants in high-stakes civil matters that demanded intensive preparation, strategic judgment, and strong courtroom advocacy. His practice draws on substantial federal trial experience and a detailed understanding of complex factual and legal records.

Matthew earned his B.A. summa cum laude from the University of New Mexico in 2008. He received his J.D. magna cum laude from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 2012. His academic work prepared him for federal clerkship, prosecution, and trial-focused practice. Before law school, he worked as a golf professional in Albuquerque. He currently serves on the law school’s Alumni Board of Directors.

Matthew began his legal career as a law clerk to US District Judge James O. Browning. He later served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico. He tried multiple felony jury cases and helped secure verdicts in three lengthy federal racketeering trials. In 2018, he received the United States Attorney’s Award for extraordinary professional achievement connected to that prosecution. He later became a partner at an Albuquerque law firm before joining his current practice. He was admitted in New Mexico in 2012, the federal district court in 2013, and the Tenth Circuit in 2014.

Matthew M. Beck brings clients first-chair trial experience developed through federal prosecution, clerkship service, private practice, and complex civil litigation. He has represented clients in matters ranging from catastrophic wrongful-death trucking claims to business-threatening oil and gas disputes. His profile credits him with helping secure the largest jury verdict recorded in New Mexico federal court. He belongs to the State Bar of New Mexico and remains active in his law school’s alumni leadership. His combination of prosecutorial insight, courtroom experience, and commercial perspective supports focused representation in demanding cases.
