About
Matthew J. Bardsley is an associate in Hawley Troxell’s Litigation practice group, working primarily from the Pocatello office and also in Idaho Falls. Matthew has experience in private practice handling civil and criminal lawsuits and disputes and previously served as a Staff Attorney for the Honorable Judge Rick Carnaroli. His litigation background helps him evaluate disputes, prepare legal arguments, and guide clients through court procedures in a practical and organized manner.
Matthew earned a J.D. from the University of Idaho College of Law in 2018. He received a B.A. in General Business from Boise State University in 2013, with a minor in Marketing. His legal and business education supports litigation work that often requires understanding both legal claims and the practical interests underlying a dispute. During law school, he also gained experience through judicial externships and a law clerk position.
Matthew has early legal experience that included an externship for the Honorable B. Lynn Winmill in the United States District Court for the District of Idaho and an externship for the Honorable N. R. Smith on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Matthew also worked as a law clerk at Racine Olson. These roles provided exposure to federal trial and appellate practice, legal research, judicial decision making, and the preparation of arguments across different types of cases.
Matthew J. Bardsley received the 2025 Denise O’Donnell Day Pro Bono Award and serves as a pro bono attorney with the Idaho Volunteer Lawyer Program. He has also served as secretary of the Sixth District Bar Association and as a board member of the Bannock Youth Foundation. His practice combines courtroom experience, judicial perspective, business training, and professional service, supporting clear and careful advocacy in civil and criminal litigation matters.
