About
Matthew E. Kiely is a partner at Brown Kiely, LLP in Bethesda, Maryland. His practice includes personal injury litigation, asbestos exposure and mesothelioma claims, commercial disputes, and other civil matters. He has represented individuals, businesses, and partnerships in lawsuits involving product liability, tort claims, and business conflicts. His litigation career began in 1989, and he brings experience trying cases to verdict as well as negotiating resolutions in complex disputes.
Matthew earned a B.A. from Saint Anselm College in 1986 and a J.D. from The Catholic University of America in 1989. He is admitted to practice in Maryland and the District of Columbia, before the United States District Court for the District of Maryland, and in the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. His legal education and decades of trial work provide the foundation for handling evidence-intensive injury cases and other contested civil claims.
Matthew began practicing at a Baltimore commercial litigation firm, representing plaintiffs and defendants in commercial, tort, and product liability actions. He tried dozens of cases to verdict between 1989 and 2000. He later helped establish Parker, Dumler & Kiely, where his practice concentrated heavily on representing people with mesothelioma caused by asbestos exposure. He obtained multimillion-dollar verdicts and settlements before continuing asbestos and other litigation as a solo practitioner.
Matthew E. Kiely joined Brown Kiely in 2017 after more than 15 years of collaboration with Daniel Brown on asbestos litigation. Their work has included resolving claims for clients in Maryland and the District of Columbia. He belongs to the Maryland Bar Association, District of Columbia Bar Association, and American Association for Justice. His experience combines extensive courtroom advocacy with long-term work on injury claims involving corporate responsibility and exposure to dangerous materials.
