About
Matt Jacobs serves as Senior Counsel with Milone Law Firm PLLC in Washington, DC and has spent much of his career representing policyholders in insurance coverage matters. His work has included complex, multiparty coverage litigation, arbitration, mediation, and counseling concerning significant corporate risks. He has advised companies and boards on insurance recovery strategies, policy placement, renewals, and coverage issues involving directors and officers, cyber risk, property losses, and other major exposures.
Jacobs earned a J.D. from the University of Virginia in 1981 and a B.A. from Princeton University in 1977, where he also completed an undergraduate certificate through the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. His academic background supports a practice built around insurance contract analysis, litigation strategy, and the relationship between insurance coverage and broader business risk.
Jacobs worked in Covington’s insurance recovery practice before becoming a partner at K&L Gates, where he eventually led the Washington office and its insurance group. He later joined Jenner & Block, serving as co-chair of its insurance recovery practice, and concluded his full-time legal career in 2023 as Of Counsel at Jones Day. He has also taught insurance coverage and insurance-law courses at the University of Virginia and George Washington University Law School.
Matt Jacobs has been recognized by Chambers, legal publications, and Washington-area bar publications for insurance recovery work. He has written extensively on insurance coverage and served on editorial boards for insurance-law journals. His current Senior Counsel role draws on decades of experience advising policyholders, litigating complex coverage disputes, and helping clients understand how insurance wording, claims strategy, and dispute resolution can affect significant business liabilities and losses.
