Matt Burnstein

Matt Burnstein is a partner and executive partner of Holland & Knight’s Nashville office. He serves on the firm’s Executive Committee and Directors Committee. His legal practice has focused on mergers and acquisitions and advising healthcare companies, private equity and venture capital firms, and emerging businesses. His transaction experience includes healthcare combinations, physician joint ventures, and corporate planning for companies seeking to grow or reorganize operations.

Matt earned a J.D. from Vanderbilt University Law School and a B.A., magna cum laude, from Vanderbilt University. He began his legal career in 1996 at Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis in Nashville. His educational and early professional background provided a foundation for corporate negotiations, healthcare transactions, and the business considerations involved in structuring and implementing major agreements.

Matt led Waller as managing partner and board chair from 2014 to 2023 and oversaw its combination with Holland & Knight in 2023. His legal work includes representing ambulatory surgery center companies in acquisitions, development projects, and physician or hospital joint ventures. These matters involve negotiation, entity structures, and coordination among healthcare participants. He also helps clients consider how transaction terms align with their business priorities and operational responsibilities.

He serves as general counsel and on the board of the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce.
