Marleena Broekema

Marleena Broekema is a family law attorney known for providing steady guidance in sensitive matters such as divorce, custody, and domestic violence–related issues. She helps clients understand their options, stays focused on protecting their interests, and uses her experience to support people facing complex family transitions.

Marleena completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Political Theory and Women’s Studies from Michigan State University in 2014. She later earned her Juris Doctor from DePaul University College of Law in 2018, where she also received a certificate in Child and Family Law. That same year, she was admitted to the Illinois Bar, formally beginning her legal career.

Marleena was deeply involved in family law programs during law school. She participated in the Child and Family Law Association and earned the Schiller DuCanto & Fleck Family Law Center Fellowship Grant. She also received the CALI award for Legal Excellence in her Family Law Drafting course for achieving the highest grade. Her commitment to service was recognized with the Benjamin Hooks Distinguished Public Service award.

Marleena Broekema continues to guide individuals through challenging family matters with a thoughtful, informed, and client-focused approach that helps people move forward with clarity and confidence. Marleena gained experience early on by clerking at the firm before her bar admission, allowing her to develop practical skills in family law. Before that, she interned with the Legal Aid Society of Metropolitan Family Services on the Domestic Violence Team, clerked for a Judge in the Domestic Relations Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County, and worked at a large downtown Chicago family law firm, strengthening her understanding of litigation and client advocacy.
