Mark Terry has built a respected career as an intellectual property attorney with extensive experience in patents, trademarks, and complex technology matters. Before entering private practice, he worked as a Patent Examiner with the U.S. Patent Office, where he evaluated software and database-related inventions from individual inventors and major corporations.
Mark pursued his early academic interests in science, studying astronomy at the University of Michigan and later earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and Mathematics. He also contributed to particle physics research at Stanford University. Following this foundation, he completed his Juris Doctor at George Mason University School of Law, gaining the legal training that would define his career.
Mark’s early professional work as a software engineer at Trident Systems in northern Virginia gave him practical technical knowledge that continues to enhance his legal practice. He remains active in software development today, writing code for systems ranging from single-board computers to advanced microchips. This background provides a unique perspective when advising inventors and businesses in technical fields.
In 2007, Mark became part of the first group of attorneys to be Board Certified in Intellectual Property Law, later serving more than six years on the certification committee. In that role, he contributed to drafting the certification exam and reviewing candidates for specialization. His accomplishments have also earned recognition through multiple professional honors, reflecting his leadership in the field.
Mark P. Terry now applies his combined technical and legal knowledge to help clients navigate the complexities of the U.S. Patent Office. Drawing on his firsthand experience as an examiner, he identifies the strategies most likely to achieve patent approval.
