Mark J. MacDougall

Mark J. MacDougall is a partner at Schertler Onorato Mead & Sears, where he specializes in white collar criminal defense, government investigations, and reputational defense. With an impressive record in federal and state courts, he is recognized for handling complex, high-profile matters for both individuals and corporations.

MacDougall holds a J.D. from The George Washington University Law School, an M.B.A. from Boston University, and a B.A. from the University of Notre Dame. He is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Massachusetts, enabling him to serve a wide range of clients across jurisdictions.

Before joining the firm in 2024, MacDougall spent nearly three decades at Akin Gump and previously served as a federal prosecutor in the DOJ’s Criminal Division. There, he led major bank and financial fraud prosecutions. He now serves as an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center, teaching white collar crime and sentencing policy.

MacDougall’s career includes major defense victories, such as acquittals and dismissals in foreign agent, wire fraud, and bribery cases. He has also secured major civil recoveries—including over $470 million in RICO litigation—and defended clients in defamation cases and cyber-related attacks. His work often combines trial advocacy with strategic media response.
