About
Mark Hartman is a criminal defense lawyer at Bath & Edmonds, P.A. He maintains a statewide Kansas practice and divides his time between offices in Leawood and Manhattan, with Manhattan becoming his home location in 2025. He represents people facing charges ranging from minor misdemeanors to serious felonies. His approach emphasizes listening to clients and understanding how a case affects their future.
Mark received a Bachelor of Science from Kansas State University in 2011 and his juris doctorate from the University of Tulsa College of Law in 2017. His education also includes the Trial Lawyers College. His legal and trial-focused training provides a foundation for courtroom advocacy, including examining evidence, preparing a defense, and communicating the client’s circumstances to judges and jurors.
Mark served as an Assistant Public Defender in Sedgwick County from 2017 to 2019 and as Chief Public Defender for the Kansas Western Regional Public Defender from 2019 to 2021. His work included representation in Wichita and Garden City. He also studied the biology underlying human behavior, using that perspective to explain important parts of a client’s history to judges, prosecutors, and jurors.
Mark Hartman received the Kansas Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers’ 2025 Champion of Justice award after all six clients he represented before juries in 2024 were acquitted of every charge. Those cases involved sexual assault, premeditated murder, and felony assaults. He is admitted in Kansas and Missouri. His professional approach combines trial preparation with timely responses to clients’ calls and emails and attention to their individual concerns.
