Luke Santangelo focuses his legal work on building, protecting, and enforcing intellectual property that drives business value. He assists clients with patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and technology-related matters. His approach centers on practical protection strategies that support innovation, commercial growth, and long-term rights enforcement across domestic and international markets.
Luke earned his B.S., Phi Beta Kappa with honors in Physics, University of Denver, 1979. He later completed his M.B.A., University of Denver in 1983. He went on to receive his J.D. from the University of Denver in 1983; member Denver Law Journal. This academic foundation supports both technical analysis and legal strategy in intellectual property matters.
Luke works across a wide range of technical fields, drawing from his background as a physicist. His experience spans electrical circuitry, biotechnology, genetic engineering, software, encryption, thin film processes, mechanical systems, and consumer products. This breadth allows him to understand complex inventions and translate them into enforceable intellectual property rights.
Luke advises clients throughout the full lifecycle of intellectual property. His work includes preparing and prosecuting patents, registering trademarks and copyrights, structuring licensing frameworks, and drafting intellectual property agreements. He regularly counsels businesses on proactive strategies to protect creative assets while reducing risk and supporting commercialization goals.
Luke has extensive experience enforcing intellectual property rights in litigation and arbitration. He has served as lead counsel, co-counsel, testifying expert, and prime arbitrator before state courts, federal courts, and arbitration panels. Notably, he participated in securing a $15.2M jury verdict upholding the trademark PROFILE® in federal court.
