About
Lori L. Guzmán focuses her practice on elder law, disability law, special needs planning, trust administration, guardianship, conservatorship, estate planning, and probate. She also advises clients on incapacity planning and government benefit eligibility, including Medical Assistance and other programs available to seniors and persons with disabilities. Her work helps families address sensitive legal needs with practical planning and informed guidance.
Lori earned her J.D. magna cum laude from William Mitchell College of Law in 1998. She received her B.A. summa cum laude from the University of St. Thomas in 1995. Her academic background supports her careful approach to legal analysis, public benefits issues, trust planning, and long-term care concerns. She also served as an adjunct professor in clinical programs at William Mitchell College of Law from 1999 to 2011.
Lori became involved in disability law and public benefit eligibility issues in 1988 after the birth of her medically fragile daughter with multiple disabilities. Through that experience, she gained firsthand knowledge of state and federal laws affecting people with disabilities, local and state agency systems, and the challenges families face when seeking and maintaining services and support. She now uses that experience to guide clients through complex planning and benefit matters.
Lori L. Guzmán frequently speaks to community groups and attorneys on special and supplemental needs trusts, guardianship, conservatorship, elder law, estate planning, and long-term care planning. She received the Mary Alice Gooderl Award from the Elder Law Section of the Minnesota State Bar Association in 2009. She has also served in leadership roles with elder law, Medicaid advisory, disability, and nonprofit organizations supporting persons with disabilities and their families.
