Lisa S. Blatt

Lisa S. Blatt is an appellate lawyer and partner at Williams & Connolly LLP who represents clients before the US Supreme Court and federal and state appellate courts. She chairs a Supreme Court and appellate practice and has argued 57 cases before the Supreme Court. Her work spans trademark, copyright, First Amendment, arbitration, antitrust, civil procedure, preemption, employment, ERISA, bankruptcy, and pharmaceutical matters. She has secured major appellate victories involving intellectual property law, labor law, federal criminal law, and other complex issues.

Lisa earned her B.A. summa cum laude, from the University of Texas at Austin. She later earned her J.D., summa cum laude, from the University of Texas School of Law. Her academic record reflected strong performance in legal research, analysis, and written advocacy.

Lisa began her career in private practice before joining the US Department of Energy’s Office of General Counsel. She then spent 13 years in the Office of the Solicitor General. Earlier in her career, she clerked for Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. Her appellate work includes landmark matters involving trademark rights, copyright, labor disputes, civil procedure, and constitutional questions. She teaches at Georgetown University Law Center.
