Leonard M. Braman focuses on commercial and general litigation for businesses, municipalities, and individuals. His work covers contract disputes, construction litigation, land use and zoning issues, civil rights claims, and insurance litigation. He co-chairs the Land Use/Zoning Group and has held leadership roles in local government and community organizations.
Leonard earned a Bachelor of Arts in Classics, summa cum laude, from Columbia University in 2002. He went on to receive his Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 2005. During law school, he served as Co-Executive Editor of the Harvard Negotiation Law Review and was a Semi-Finalist in the Ames Moot Court Competition.
Leonard began his legal career by clerking for the Hon. Anita B. Brody of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and for the Hon. Judith A. Cowin of the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts. He later practiced complex commercial litigation in New York City before serving as Senior Counsel in the Affirmative Litigation Division of the New York City Law Department.
Leonard represented the City of New York as plaintiff in major commercial and public policy cases. His matters included tax evasion, fraud, RICO claims, construction and design disputes involving public buildings, and civil rights enforcement on behalf of the City’s Commission on Human Rights. He also volunteered as an arbitrator in the New York City Small Claims Court.
Leonard is admitted to practice in Connecticut and New York, as well as before the United States District Courts for the District of Connecticut and the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. He is also admitted to the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the Third Circuit. He has been recognized in Connecticut Super Lawyers and The Best Lawyers in America® for his work in litigation and land use matters.
