Lea Brigtsen is senior counsel and an experienced complex commercial litigator who represents companies in state and federal courts. Her practice focuses on business disputes involving patents, trade secrets, copyrights, business torts, and contracts. She also handles regulatory investigations, enforcement actions, environmental law matters, real estate disputes, and financial services accounting issues. Her clients have included technology companies, accounting firms, oil and gas companies, national retailers, financial institutions, medical providers, and Texas government entities.
Lea earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and a Master’s in Professional Accounting from The University of Texas at Austin in 2002. She received her J.D. with honors from The University of Texas School of Law in 2007. A Certified Public Accountant since 2004, she previously worked as a tax associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. Her accounting and legal training helps her understand business operations, evaluate financial records, and analyze complex damages theories.
Lea has handled patent disputes involving remote-control, VOIP, and video technologies, as well as trade secret claims concerning confidential systems and information. Her copyright experience includes helping obtain dismissal of a claim seeking $784 million and securing affirmance on appeal. She has also represented clients in energy royalty disputes, regulatory investigations, contract litigation, environmental matters, and cases involving state agencies. Her appellate experience includes successful work in both state and federal courts through careful analysis and preparation.
Lea Brigtsen was selected to the Texas Super Lawyers list in 2025. She serves on the boards of the Mother Attorney Mentoring Association of Austin and First English Lutheran Child Development Center. She is also a fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, Travis County Women Lawyers Foundation, and Austin Bar Foundation. Her pro bono work has included veterans’ benefits, asylum, landlord-tenant disputes, family law, and adoption matters, reflecting a broad commitment to legal service and community involvement.
