Ladd Cahoon

Ladd Cahoon is a partner at Edgcomb Law Group LLP whose practice focuses on environmental law and environmentally impacted real estate. He helps clients buy, sell, develop, and clean up contaminated properties while assessing liability and pursuing responsible parties. His work includes government agency enforcement matters, environmental litigation, insurance coverage, water quality, stormwater, wetlands, underground storage tanks, CEQA, and Proposition 65. Before practicing law, he worked on water quality enforcement at the US Environmental Protection Agency.

Cahoon earned his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1997, where he served as Executive Editor of the Georgetown International Environmental Law Review. He previously earned his B.A. in Environmental Sciences from the University of California at Berkeley in 1992. His academic background in environmental sciences and law prepared him for a career centered on environmental regulation, contaminated property, land use, water quality, due diligence, remediation, and related compliance and litigation matters involving complex regulatory and technical issues.

Cahoon represents developers, property owners, retailers, manufacturers, wineries, petroleum businesses, trucking companies, and other clients in environmental matters. His work includes environmental due diligence, hazardous waste cleanup, underground storage tank claims, water quality permitting, stormwater citizen suits, Proposition 65 claims, and EPA enforcement actions. He has advised clients on transactions involving environmentally impaired properties and negotiated environmental terms in leases and purchase agreements. His practice combines regulatory counseling, transactional guidance, negotiation, and litigation involving environmental risks and liabilities.

Ladd Cahoon is admitted in California, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and federal district courts throughout California. His memberships include the State Bar of California Environmental Law Section, the American Bar Association, the Environmental Bankers Association, and the Bar Association of San Francisco. He formerly chaired the latter organization’s Environmental Law Section and serves on its executive committee. Super Lawyers recognized him in Northern California from 2019 through 2025.
