Kevin West

Kevin West is a registered patent attorney with more than two decades of experience guiding clients through intellectual property matters. His work focuses on securing and protecting patent rights in the U.S. and abroad, providing trusted counsel on patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and internet-related legal issues.

Kevin earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1987 and went on to complete a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering at the Missouri University of Science and Technology in 1992. He later received his Juris Doctor, graduating cum laude from Notre Dame Law School in 1997, where he also served as Executive Articles Editor for the Journal of Legislation.

Kevin has prosecuted and prepared patents across a wide range of industries, including computer software and hardware, integrated circuits, telecommunications, GPS systems, medical imaging, RFID technology, power tools, pumps, valves, and food packaging. His early engineering experience at McDonnell Douglas Corporation in St. Louis gives him a strong technical background that enhances his legal practice.

Kevin has also served as chief intellectual property counsel for Garmin International and previously worked as a partner at an intellectual property law firm in Omaha. This combination of in-house and law firm experience has helped him effectively manage and protect intellectual property portfolios for some of the largest companies in the world, while also supporting innovative start-ups.

Kevin West is admitted to practice law in the State of Nebraska and is also registered before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, providing clients with comprehensive legal representation in all areas of intellectual property law. He remains engaged with the intellectual property legal community as an active member of the San Francisco Bay Area Intellectual Property American Inn of Court. His ongoing involvement allows him to stay connected with leading attorneys and remain current on developments in the field.
