About

Kelcey Nichols is a shareholder with Garfield & Hecht, P.C. whose practice includes real estate, small business, and estate planning. She advises private landowners, small businesses, and startups on acquisitions, sales, business transactions, and planning matters. Her work often involves issues where ownership, contracts, business operations, and long-term planning intersect. She brings prior litigation experience to transactional work, helping clients identify potential disputes and address legal risks before completing important property or business decisions.

Kelcey earned a J.D. from the University of Washington School of Law and a B.A. from Barnard College, Columbia University. She graduated magna cum laude from Barnard, was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and received departmental honors. Her education developed strong analytical and writing skills that support contract review, real estate transactions, business counseling, and estate planning for clients whose personal and commercial interests may be closely connected.

Kelcey joined Garfield & Hecht after co-founding Wood Nichols, where her work focused on business, real estate, and estate planning matters. Earlier in her career, she litigated property disputes with the Simons Firm in New Mexico. This combination of transactional and litigation experience helps her anticipate problems that can arise from unclear documents, ownership issues, or competing expectations. She uses that perspective when structuring transactions and advising clients about business and property decisions.

Kelcey Nichols has received an AV Preeminent peer review rating and has been recognized as a Rising Star in real estate. Her practice combines real estate transactions with small business counseling and estate planning, particularly for business owners and clients whose assets require coordinated planning. She focuses on preparing clear documents, identifying practical risks, and helping clients complete transactions or planning steps with a stronger understanding of their legal obligations and options.
