About
Katherine Van Deusen Hely is the founding member of Caribbean IP, a law firm dedicated to providing sophisticated intellectual property counsel throughout the Caribbean region. With over a decade of experience in trademark, patent, and copyright law, Katherine has established herself as a highly respected leader in the field. Her approach is strategic and personable, balancing deep legal expertise with a client-focused mindset that ensures effective and responsive service.
Katherine holds a B.S. and M.S. in Biology from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and the University of Virginia, respectively. She earned her J.D. from Vanderbilt University Law School, where she also led the Intellectual Property Association. She later completed her Legal Education Certificate at Eugene Dupuch Law School.
Katherine’s career in intellectual property began early with internships at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and Vanderbilt’s Intellectual Property and the Arts Clinic. She gained hands-on experience working with her cousin, prominent Caribbean IP attorney George C. J. Moore, eventually joining his firm. Following his passing in 2013, she became the sole attorney handling the firm’s clients, later founding Caribbean IP in 2014.
Today, Katherine advises international law firms, corporations, and rights holders on their intellectual property strategies across the Caribbean. Her ability to translate complex legal issues into clear, goal-oriented strategies has made her a trusted partner in the global IP landscape.
Katherine Van Deusen Hely’s contributions have been recognized by the WTR 1000, Chambers Global, Legal 500, and WTR Global Leaders. She is actively involved with INTA and other global IP organizations, where she has served in leadership roles and as committee chairs. Katherine’s commitment to legal excellence, combined with her regional expertise, positions her as a leading IP professional for companies operating in or expanding into the Caribbean.
