About
Kate M. Simpson is a litigation attorney with Stevens and Brand who represents clients in federal and state courts across a wide range of disputes. Her practice includes business, commercial, civil rights, employment, construction, family law, and personal injury matters with experience guiding cases from filing through trial.
Kate earned a JD from the University of Kansas School of Law in 2014, graduating Order of the Coif. She also earned a BA in Germanic Languages and Literatures from the University of Kansas in 2011, graduating Cum Laude with distinction for academic excellence and dedicated language study.
Kate previously served as a federal law clerk for the Honorable K. Gary Sebelius in Topeka, Kansas, and the Honorable Carlos Murguia in Kansas City, Kansas. During four and a half years of clerkship service, she worked on civil and criminal matters including trials, motions, and pretrial issues.
Kate uses that experience to help clients navigate complex litigation in both federal and state courts. She assists with discovery, dispositive motion practice, pretrial preparation, and trial strategy. Her work spans appeals, business disputes, civil rights claims, employment matters, construction conflicts, and personal injury defense.
Kate has been recognized for professional leadership and service. She was named a Super Lawyers Missouri and Kansas Rising Star from 2022–2024 and selected for The Best Lawyers in America Ones to Watch 2021–2025 for several litigation and municipal law practice areas.
Kate is active in many legal organizations. She serves in leadership roles within the Federal Bar Association including service as Tenth Circuit Vice President and leadership positions within several sections. She also contributes to bench bar committees and professional programs that support lawyers and courts.
Kate M. Simpson contributes to legal scholarship and professional publications. She is a contributor to the Media Law Resource Center’s MLRC 50-State Survey for the Kansas section and has co-authored the KBA Annual Survey Torts Chapter along with additional legal scholarship and professional guidance publications.
