Karen Oakes is the founding attorney of Oakes Law Offices, P.C. in Klamath Falls, Oregon. She focuses on consumer bankruptcy, debt relief, creditor harassment, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act claims, Fair Credit Reporting Act claims, estate planning, probate, wills and trusts, tenant matters, and deed preparation. Ms. Oakes helps individuals and families address financial pressure, protect their rights, and move forward with practical legal guidance.
Ms. Oakes earned her J.D. from the University of Idaho College of Law in 1998. She received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Averett College in 1995 and earlier completed multiple degrees and certificates at Shasta College. During law school, she was accepted to the Idaho Law Review, participated in the Legal Aid Clinic, and served in a national student leadership role supporting Volunteer Income Tax Assistance programs.
Ms. Oakes began her Oregon legal career as a law clerk for circuit court judges in Klamath County and Lake County. She later worked as a deputy district attorney in the Klamath County District Attorney’s Office, where she focused on domestic violence prosecution. She also taught in the paralegal studies program at Oregon Institute of Technology before opening a private practice in 2001 and later developing a consumer protection practice centered on bankruptcy, FDCPA, and FCRA matters.
Karen Oakes brings more than two decades of legal and public service experience to clients facing debt, creditor disputes, and estate planning needs. Ms. Oakes was elected justice of the peace for Klamath County in 2004 and re-elected in 2010 and 2016. She is also active in professional organizations, including consumer bankruptcy and consumer advocacy groups, and serves in leadership connected to the Bankruptcy Law Network.
