John L. Whitehead

John L. Whitehead is a shareholder at Wiener, Weiss & Madison, A Professional Corporation, practicing between the firm’s Natchitoches and Shreveport offices. Whitehead focuses on banking law, regulatory compliance, bankruptcy, creditors’ rights, real estate, commercial litigation, business law, and mergers and acquisitions. He advises financial institutions and business clients on legal risks, transactions, disputes, and regulatory issues that affect daily operations and long-term planning.

Whitehead completed the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University in 2007. He earned his J.D. from Southern University Law Center in 1992, graduating magna cum laude, and received a B.A. from Northeast Louisiana University in 1988. His legal education and banking training provide a strong foundation for advising clients on compliance, lending, bankruptcy, real estate, and business matters that require careful legal and practical judgment.

Before joining the firm, Whitehead served nearly 30 years as general counsel for a Louisiana community bank with branches in Louisiana and Texas. His work included overseeing legal risk across business lines, managing compliance and BSA departments, handling litigation and bankruptcy matters, and advising on products and services. He also served as counsel on real estate acquisitions, branch applications, mergers and acquisitions, change-in-control applications, and holding-company litigation.

He is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, the State Bar of Texas, and the Louisiana State Law Institute Uniform Commercial Code Committee.
