Karen J. Porter

Karen J. Porter is the founder and principal attorney of Porter Law Network, where she brings over thirty years of legal experience to her clients. She has represented a wide range of clients, including major corporations, financial institutions, small businesses, and individuals, with a strong focus on practical solutions and legal excellence.

Karen earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan Law School in 1982 after graduating summa cum laude with a B.A. in Political Science from Kean University in 1979. Ms. Porter was admitted to the Michigan Bar in 1982 and to the Illinois Bar in 1984, marking the beginning of her enduring and influential legal career.

Karen has led over 500 bankruptcy cases and adversary proceedings and has successfully confirmed dozens of Chapter 11 reorganization plans in recent years. Her broad legal practice also encompasses litigation, real estate, probate, and estate planning, allowing her to provide comprehensive counsel tailored to both individual and business needs.

Throughout her career, Karen has held leadership roles in the legal community. She has served on the Bankruptcy Executive Council of the Commercial Law League of America and taught as a faculty member at the Illinois Professional Responsibility Institute. Ms. Porter remains an active member of the Illinois State and Chicago Bar Associations.

In addition to her legal work, Karen J. Porter contributes to civic initiatives, including serving as chairwoman of the Task Force on Community Development and Violence Reduction for the Union League Club of Chicago in 2016. Her community involvement reflects her commitment to justice, advocacy, and ethical service in and out of the courtroom. Karen J.
