Juan LaFonta

Juan LaFonta is a respected New Orleans attorney and the lead counsel at Juan A. LaFonta and Associates, L.L.C., a firm he founded in 2002. Since his first $1.2 million case victory, he has built a reputation as a leading advocate in personal injury law, known for his commitment to securing justice for his clients. His practice continues to make a powerful impact across Louisiana.

LaFonta earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of New Orleans, followed by a Law Degree from Southern University Law Center. These academic achievements provided the foundation for his successful legal career. His dedication to education and service is also reflected in his work as an adjunct professor at Dillard University.

In addition to building a successful law firm, LaFonta represented Louisiana’s House District 96 as a Democratic State Representative. First elected in 2005 and re-elected unopposed in 2007, he quickly emerged as an influential lawmaker, becoming the first freshman legislator to chair the Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus. From 2005 to 2010, he also served as floor leader for New Orleans, playing a central role in advancing the city’s interests at the state Capitol.

LaFonta played a vital role in post-Hurricane Katrina recovery, helping negotiate $1.2 billion in funding for the metro New Orleans and Gulf Coast region. His leadership on the House Special Committee for Disaster Recovery showcased his ability to navigate complex challenges and deliver tangible results for affected communities.
