Joshua earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in Economics from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. He later completed his Juris Doctor at Oklahoma City University School of Law, building strong foundations in research, writing, and courtroom practice for effective legal representation in family and criminal matters statewide.

Joshua focuses his practice on family and criminal law matters. His work includes divorce, custody, modifications, adoptions, guardianships, juvenile deprived cases, and criminal defense. He also has extensive experience in State and Tribal courts, including Indian Child Welfare Act matters, serving Native families throughout Oklahoma with cultural understanding and respect.

Before private practice, Joshua gained broad courtroom experience as a law clerk and Licensed Legal Intern across Oklahoma. He completed over 350 pro bono hours with the Oklahoma County Public Defender’s Juvenile Division and worked with Oklahoma Indian Legal Services and civil litigation and personal injury practices statewide and locally.

Joshua previously served as an Indian Child Welfare Specialist and expert witness for the Cherokee Nation. In that role, he represented the tribe in state courts across multiple jurisdictions. Clients value his listening approach, clear communication, and strong advocacy during custody disputes, criminal cases, and adoptions that shape families’ futures.

Joshua D. Cooper remains active in the Oklahoma community through service and mentorship. He volunteers as an assistant head coach for the Oklahoma State University Men’s Rugby Club and values cultural education.
