Josey M. Blare

Josey M. Blare is an associate attorney at Lynn, Jackson, Shultz & Lebrun, P.C. in Sioux Falls and works in the firm’s litigation practice group. She assists with civil litigation and probate lawsuits and disputes, including employment litigation, trusts and probate litigation, workers’ compensation, appeals, and guardianships. She is licensed in South Dakota state and federal courts and began her practice with the firm in 2022 after completing a judicial clerkship.

Josey earned a B.A. in International Studies and Native American Studies, with a minor in History, from the University of South Dakota in 2018, graduating magna cum laude. She graduated from the USD Knudson School of Law in 2021. In law school, she served as an associate editor of the South Dakota Law Review, participated in national moot court, and completed more than 50 hours of pro bono work.

Josey clerked for the South Dakota Sixth Judicial Circuit after law school, serving courts across fourteen counties in central and south-central South Dakota. That experience gave her exposure to a wide range of civil and procedural issues before she entered private practice. She now handles civil and probate litigation, workers’ compensation, appeals, guardianships, and related disputes, drawing on her research, writing, and court experience when preparing matters for resolution or hearing.

Josey M. Blare is a member of the Second Circuit Bar Association, South Dakota Trial Lawyers Association, Sicangu Oyate Bar Association, American Bar Association, and South Dakota Bar Association. She is also admitted to the Rosebud Sioux Tribe and the Eighth Circuit. Her practice combines a judicial clerkship perspective with developing trial and appellate experience, helping clients address contested civil and probate issues through careful preparation and clear legal analysis.
