Joseph J. Colarusso

Joseph J. Colarusso is a criminal defense attorney serving clients in Connecticut, New York, and federal courts. With more than thirty-four years of experience, he handles serious charges including homicide, white collar crimes, drug offenses, sex offenses, burglary, assault, DWI, traffic matters, and juvenile cases. A former prosecutor, he brings courtroom insight and trial experience to every case. He is available around the clock to respond to urgent legal matters.

Joseph earned his J.D. from California Western School of Law in San Diego. He also holds a B.A. in History from St. John’s University. During law school, he received the American Jurisprudence Award in Agency and Partnership and served on the Client Counseling Board. His education and early legal training prepared him for complex litigation and high-stakes criminal defense work.

Before entering private practice, Joseph served as an Assistant District Attorney with the Office of the Bronx District Attorney. This role provided firsthand experience in criminal investigations, charging decisions, and courtroom prosecution. His background as a prosecutor allows him to anticipate strategies used by the state and challenge weaknesses in the evidence. He has represented clients in both state and federal courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court.
