John McMillan

John McMillan is a criminal defense attorney with Grieve Law who represents people facing OWI and criminal charges. His work is built around courtroom preparation, direct client communication, and experience on both sides of a criminal case. Before moving to Wisconsin, he defended clients charged with serious felonies and misdemeanors and later prosecuted DWI matters as an Assistant District Attorney in Texas.

McMillan earned a B.A. in History from Southern Methodist University in 2019 and a J.D. from Baylor Law School in 2024. At Baylor, he pursued criminal-law coursework, served as an officer of the Criminal Law Society, and completed criminal-law and voir dire boot camps. His legal training also included internships with federal and county prosecutors and a private criminal defense firm in Texas.

After law school, McMillan worked at the Kearney Law Firm on matters ranging from DWI and theft to murder, sexual assault, drug trafficking, bribery, and fraud. He then served in the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office, where he focused on DWI cases and tried more than a dozen matters. That combined defense and prosecution background informs his case evaluation and trial strategy.

John McMillan is admitted in Wisconsin and Texas and brings substantial early-career courtroom experience to criminal defense work. He approaches each matter with attention to the individual client, the evidence, and the practical consequences of a criminal charge. His experience with investigation, charging decisions, negotiations, and trials supports a defense practice focused on protecting rights and preparing every case carefully.
