John L. Pinnix

John L. Pinnix (Jack Pinnix) is a founding partner and senior immigration attorney at Allen & Pinnix, P.A., in Raleigh, North Carolina. With a decades-long legal career, John is a nationally recognized authority on immigration law and policy. He has dedicated his practice to guiding individuals, families, and businesses through the complexities of immigration and nationality issues, providing unparalleled expertise and advocacy.

John earned his Juris Doctor from Wake Forest University School of Law, where he served as Managing Editor of The Jurist. He also holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in History from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Over the years, he has been admitted to practice in North Carolina, the District of Columbia, multiple federal courts, and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Throughout his career, John has successfully represented thousands of clients in non-immigrant classifications, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), family reunification, naturalization, employment-based immigration, investor visas, and complex deportation and asylum cases. He has also litigated on behalf of clients at the administrative and appellate levels, addressing issues critical to their immigration status.

John is a former national president of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and a founding member of its Carolinas Chapter, where he served as Chair twice. He has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America for Immigration Law since 1991 and has consistently been listed in North Carolina Super Lawyers. His expertise has also been highlighted in Who’s Who Legal, which described him as “outstanding” and “a phenomenal legal mind.”

In addition to his practice, John has shared his knowledge as an adjunct professor at several law schools, including Duke University. He has authored numerous publications on immigration law and served as a mentor for legal professionals and pro bono organizations.
