John Hunsucker

John Hunsucker is the founding attorney of the Hunsucker Legal Group and a nationally recognized leader in DUI defense. As the only board-certified DUI defense attorney in Western Oklahoma, he has represented thousands of clients and consulted on cases nationwide, earning a reputation as one of the foremost authorities in DUI law.

John earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma and his Juris Doctor from Oklahoma City University School of Law in 1997. He is admitted to practice in all Oklahoma courts, the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma, and the Supreme Court of the United States.

Before founding his firm, John served as an Assistant District Attorney, prosecuting DUI cases—a role that provided crucial insight into the strategies used by the state. This experience informs his defense work, allowing him to anticipate and dismantle the prosecution’s approach with precision and authority.

A prolific author and educator, John has coauthored several foundational texts, including Oklahoma DUI Defense: The Law and Practice and the Oklahoma DUI Survival Guide. He has lectured nationwide and internationally on DUI defense and is a Regent and Sustaining Member of the National College for DUI Defense.

John is also certified as an Instructor and Administrator in standardized field sobriety testing and trained in Drug Recognition Evaluation (DRE). He co-owns two of only twelve functioning Intoxilyzer 8000 units held by law firms in the U.S., giving him a distinct edge in defending breath test cases.

John Hunsucker has successfully argued before the Oklahoma appellate courts, resulting in the restoration of thousands of driver’s licenses. As lead plaintiff in Hunsucker v. Fallin, he helped overturn unconstitutional changes to Oklahoma DUI law. Known as “The Man Who Wrote the DUI Book,” John continues to lead the field with innovation, integrity, and unmatched experience.
