John Edgcomb

John Edgcomb is the managing partner of Edgcomb Law Group LLP and has practiced environmental law for more than 40 years. He founded the firm in 1995 after beginning his environmental practice in 1983. His clients include Fortune 100 corporations, smaller businesses, government agencies, neighborhood groups, and individuals. His work focuses on practical, cost-effective solutions involving complex environmental sites, regulatory obligations, contamination disputes, remediation projects, and environmental risk issues arising in significant transactions and litigation matters.

John earned his J.D., cum laude, from Tulane Law School in 1983, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif. He served on the Tulane Law Review and received the Morrison Award for Best Law Review Article. He previously earned his B.A. from Lafayette College in 1980.

John has represented clients in major CERCLA litigation and has successfully argued environmental cases before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. His experience includes multimillion-dollar cleanup and site closure proceedings involving federal and state agencies. He advises purchasers, sellers, lenders, and other parties on environmental risks connected with real estate transactions, including due diligence and liability allocation terms. His practice further includes environmental insurance, hazardous material transportation regulations, natural resource damage claims, land use matters, and contaminated property disputes.

John Edgcomb has represented clients at complex third-party disposal sites, hazardous waste facilities, and other contaminated locations involving potentially responsible party groups. His representative matters include federal environmental litigation, administrative investigations, remediation proceedings, and environmental insurance issues. He has secured substantial attorney fee awards for clients and has handled matters involving CERCLA, RCRA, zoning, air emission credits, mining reclamation, and environmental due diligence. His practice reflects extensive experience addressing complicated environmental liability, compliance, transactional, and litigation challenges.
