John E. Stang is a partner at Hulnick, Stang, Gering & Leavitt, P.A., where he has dedicated more than 30 years to criminal defense law. A Kansas native, he is known for his compassionate advocacy and commitment to protecting the rights of individuals accused of crimes. His practice spans state and federal courts throughout Kansas, where he has successfully handled a wide range of criminal matters—from DUI and misdemeanor offenses to complex felony trials.

John earned his J.D. from Washburn University School of Law and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Business Administration from the University of Kansas. He was admitted to the Kansas Bar in 1988 and is licensed to practice before the U.S. District Courts of Kansas, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States. His educational and professional background give him a comprehensive understanding of both legal strategy and the financial nuances that often arise in criminal cases.

John is a respected voice in the Kansas legal community. He is a Life Member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and an active member of the Wichita and Kansas Bar Associations. Within the Kansas Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, he has served on the Board of Governors and held leadership positions including Treasurer, Secretary, and Vice President. He is also a member of the National College for DUI Defense, reflecting his depth of expertise in this complex field.

In addition to his courtroom work, John E. Stang lectures across Kansas and nationally on criminal defense topics. His presentations for organizations such as Washburn University and the Kansas Bar Association demonstrate his dedication to advancing the practice of criminal law through education and mentorship.
