John D. Wright

John D. Wright is Of Counsel at Dickinson Wright’s Troy office, where he provides comprehensive legal counsel in intellectual property and corporate law. His practice focuses on patent prosecution, business restructurings, and stock and asset acquisitions. With over two decades of experience, he delivers strategic guidance that bridges technical innovation and sound legal principles.

Before earning his law degree, John built a foundation in mechanical engineering and corporate operations. He earned his Juris Doctor from Wayne State University Law School in 2001. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Saginaw Valley State University. This diverse educational background enables him to navigate the intersection of engineering and intellectual property law with exceptional clarity.

John began his professional career as a sales engineer with The Torrington Company, later serving in key roles with Thomson Saginaw Ball Screw and NTN Bearing Company of America. After transitioning to law, he clerked at Reising, Ethington, where he developed his skills in patent law and intellectual property litigation. He continued with the firm as an associate attorney, advising clients on complex patent issues and mechanical innovations.

At Dickinson Wright, John continues to guide inventors, corporations, and entrepreneurs in protecting their intellectual property assets. He is admitted to practice in Michigan and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, reinforcing his technical and legal proficiency.

He currently serves as Acting Vice President of the Saginaw Valley Patent Law Association, where he promotes innovation and professional development within the field of patent law.
