John Chmil

John Chmil is a Colorado attorney whose practice focuses on local government, special districts, and school law. During his third year of law school, he served as a Production Editor of the Colorado Natural Resources, Energy & Environmental Law Review. His academic background combines the study of social institutions with legal training and experience in scholarly legal publishing.

John gained early experience in public sector legal work through positions with the Arvada and Boulder City Attorney Offices while attending law school. These roles exposed him to the varied issues local government entities encounter. After graduation, he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Patrick D. Butler in the 20th Judicial District. Together, his municipal office experience and judicial clerkship form an important part of the professional background he brings to his government practice.

John Chmil is a member of the Boulder County and Colorado Bar Associations. He is also involved with the Special District Association and the Colorado Association of School Boards. As a regular speaker at the Special District Association’s Annual Conference, he has presented on topics concerning local government operations. Before law school, he worked with a Boulder County nonprofit supporting academic achievement and life skills for low-income students. His career reflects a continued commitment to public service and Colorado communities.
