John C. Whitbeck

John C. Whitbeck is the founder and managing partner of WhitbeckBeglis, where he focuses his practice on family law, special education law, mental health care law, and civil litigation. He represents clients in matters involving divorce, child custody, child and spousal support, domestic relations, protective orders, and related family disputes. His practice extends to special education and mental health matters, where he assists families with complex legal issues.

Mr. Whitbeck earned an A.B. in Politics from Occidental College. He received his J.D., cum laude, from George Mason University School of Law. During law school, he participated in the Moot Court Board, Trial Advocacy Team, and Law and Mental Illness Clinic. His legal education provided the foundation for his work in family law, litigation, mental health law, and special education matters.

Mr. Whitbeck has practiced law for nearly 25 years and has represented clients in multiple jurisdictions throughout Virginia and Maryland. He previously served as Director of the George Mason University Law and Mental Illness Clinic and taught law as a professor at George Mason University School of Law. His experience includes serving as a Substitute Judge in Virginia District Courts and as a Special Justice for civil commitment hearings involving mental health matters.

John C. Whitbeck is admitted to practice in Virginia and Maryland, as well as the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. He is a member of the Virginia State Bar, Maryland State Bar, and other professional organizations. His work at his practice focuses on family law, special education law, mental health law, and civil litigation matters affecting individuals and families.
