Joel Carney

Joel Carney is the Administrative Partner at Smith Pauley LLP, where he plays a key leadership role in guiding the firm’s strategy and operations. With a focus on creditors’ rights, bankruptcy, and litigation, Carney is known for providing efficient, cost-effective legal solutions tailored to clients’ unique needs. His practical, results-driven approach reflects the firm’s mission to deliver innovative and high-quality legal services across Nebraska and the Midwest.

Carney earned his B.A. from the University of Nebraska in 1995, followed by a J.D. from Creighton University School of Law in 2000. This academic foundation laid the groundwork for a distinguished legal career. He is licensed to practice in Nebraska and Iowa, including the U.S. District Courts for both states and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.

With over two decades of legal experience, Carney has been widely recognized in his field. He has been named to The Best Lawyers in America for his work in insurance law and product liability litigation and has also earned recognition on the Great Plains Super Lawyers list. He holds an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell, indicating the highest level of professional excellence and ethical standards.

In addition to his litigation and bankruptcy work, Carney is expanding his practice in Alternative Dispute Resolution. Since 2019, he has served as a panel arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association and is preparing to launch a mediation practice to further support conflict resolution outside the courtroom.
