About
Joe Richard Gama is a personal injury attorney licensed in Arizona and Colorado. He represents people who have been injured and families pursuing wrongful death claims. His practice includes car and truck accidents, falls, construction accidents, medical malpractice, and injuries involving dangerous products. He also handles cases involving spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and pedestrian and bicycle accidents. His work focuses exclusively on representing injured people and helping them pursue claims arising from serious accidents and other harmful events.
Gama earned a Bachelor’s from Arizona State University in 1969 and a Juris Doctor from Arizona State University College of Law in 1972. He began practicing as a personal injury trial attorney in Arizona that same year. Before his judicial appointment, he spent decades working on injury cases from a trial attorney’s perspective. That experience, followed by his years on the bench, gives him a broad background in civil litigation and the issues that arise when injury claims reach court.
In 2000, Arizona’s governor selected Gama to serve as a Superior Court judge in Phoenix. During his time on the bench, he served for several years as Presiding Civil Court Judge and handled complex civil litigation in Arizona’s busiest courthouse. He retired from the bench in 2016 and moved to Colorado shortly afterward. He later returned to private practice, focusing on injured clients in Arizona and Colorado. His listed practice areas also include nursing home injuries, burns, boating accidents, and claims involving dangerous prescription drugs and medical devices.
Joe Richard Gama received the Phoenix Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates’ Judge of the Year award in 2010. He has taught and advised future lawyers as an adjunct law professor at Arizona State University College of Law. Outside the courtroom, he served on the boards of Friendly House and Memorial Hospital in Phoenix. An active member of the Arizona and Colorado bar associations, he brings his experience as a trial attorney, judge, and educator to his current personal injury practice.
