About
John T. O’Connell is a trial lawyer whose practice focuses on preparing and trying personal injury cases. For more than 40 years, he has handled litigation involving aviation accidents, scuba diving injuries, and complex product liability claims. He is also a commercial pilot and a certified advanced open water diver. That firsthand experience gives him a practical understanding of the activities at the center of many cases he has handled.
John earned his Juris Doctor from Syracuse University College of Law in 1981. His broader education includes undergraduate training at Salem State University, chemistry studies at Oregon State University, physics studies at UMass Boston, and master’s level coursework in computer systems design and analysis at Boston University. This scientific background is relevant to cases that involve technical evidence, equipment, and the causes of an accident.
John began his legal career in Boston, working on aviation, product liability, medical product, car accident, and other personal injury cases. He later founded legal practices in Massachusetts and Florida. His experience includes disputes arising from general aviation and diving accidents, as well as injuries involving complex products. He now concentrates on the preparation and trial of personal injury cases, bringing decades of litigation experience to that work.
John T. O’Connell is admitted to practice in Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, and Massachusetts, as well as in federal district courts in those states. He is also registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. His professional memberships include the American Board of Trial Advocates, the Academy of Truck Accident Attorneys, and the Lawyer-Pilot Bar Association. Across his practice, he draws on both legal and technical experience to examine the facts behind serious injury claims and present them at trial.
