Jocelyn Cortez

Jocelyn Cortez is a Nevada immigration lawyer with 20 years of legal experience. Her practice focuses on immigration law, including asylum, citizenship, family visas, green cards, immigration appeals, and marriage and fiancé(e) visas. Jocelyn graduated from the University of Nevada Las Vegas with a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature in 2003. She studied law at the University of Arizona, where she was a member of the Arizona Law Review. During law school, she represented a family in deportation proceedings through the immigration clinic.

After graduating and passing the bar in 2006, Jocelyn chose work that supported social justice for clients. For many years, she represented people who faced discrimination in the workplace. In 2011, she shifted her practice toward immigration matters, building on her initial legal interest and early, valuable, direct clinical experience.

Jocelyn is admitted to practice in Nevada and has been licensed since 2006. She is a member of the Nevada State Bar, number 10012. She works with clients in English and Spanish, both spoken and written, which helps her explain legal steps clearly, consistently, and helpfully.

Jocelyn has served the legal and local community. In 2012, she was president of the Nevada Latino Bar Association. She serves on the boards of Dream Big Nevada and Leaders in Training, works as an abogada consultora for the Consulate of Mexico, and supports CCSD’s English Language Learner Advocacy Committee.
