Jim earned his B.A. from Hamilton College, where he developed strong research and writing skills that support his legal practice. He then received his J.D. from Vermont Law School, graduating with honors in 2013. During law school, he served on the Vermont Journal of Environmental Law. He was selected as a fellow with the US-China Partnership for Environmental Law, strengthening his analytical and leadership skills. These experiences prepared him for the complex legal challenges ahead professionally.

Jim built a practice centered on helping clients plan for the future and manage complex transactions after law school. He joined Smith Law, P.A. in 2014 and has since represented clients in estate administration, elder law planning, and real estate matters. He is admitted to the Maine bar and to the bars of New York and New Jersey. He is a member of the Maine State Bar Association and NAELA and serves as a title insurance agent with First American Title Insurance Company.
