Jim McConkie

James W. McConkie is a founding partner of Parker & McConkie Personal Injury Lawyers and has built a distinguished career spanning more than four decades. His practice focuses on personal injury and civil rights litigation, including wrongful death, medical malpractice, trucking accidents, traumatic brain injuries, and complex cases against corporations and government entities. He is recognized for his ability to deliver justice in high-profile matters.

James earned his law degree from the S.J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah. Following graduation, he served as Chief of Staff to U.S. Congressman Gunn McKay before being appointed Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Utah in 1977. There, he prosecuted federal criminal cases until 1980, when he pursued a campaign for Utah Attorney General. His early career in public service laid the foundation for his later success in private practice.

Since co-founding Parker & McConkie, James has successfully prosecuted major cases, securing multimillion-dollar verdicts and settlements. His achievements include a $52 million wrongful death verdict involving a polygamist group, a $10 million medical negligence verdict, and a $13.5 million Title IX settlement on behalf of the family of Lauren McCluskey. His record demonstrates consistent success in holding powerful defendants accountable.

Beyond litigation, James W. McConkie has made significant contributions to education and community service. He has taught constitutional law as an adjunct professor at Westminster College and co-authored books on religious and historical scholarship. He also co-founded the Refugee Justice League, a coalition of over 800 attorneys providing pro bono assistance to refugees in Utah. His leadership extends to Citizens Against Radioactive Waste and other nonprofit initiatives, reflecting his commitment to social justice.
