About
Jeffrey Young is a Washington, D.C., attorney and technical advisor whose practice focuses on international media communications. He serves NHK, Japan’s independent public broadcaster, and its affiliated companies on legal and technical matters affecting their worldwide media services. He assists with the legal issues involved in distributing programming internationally and maintaining the networks that carry those services.
Jeffrey earned a B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley with High Honors in 2000. He later received his Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan Law School, graduating cum laude in 2006. During law school, he served as Articles Editor for Volume 103 of the Michigan Law Review. He began his legal career clerking for Judge John C. Coughenour in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington.
Jeffrey drafts distribution agreements and advises on licensing and copyright for international television channels carried in more than 160 countries. He counsels on satellite, fiber, and internet-based infrastructure, along with communications regulations in the United States and Europe. His earlier experience includes federal litigation, arbitration, and government investigations involving antitrust, fraud, and contract claims. He has also handled regulatory compliance, premerger clearance filings, and national security reviews, with an emphasis on Pacific Rim clients.
Jeffrey Young participates in the Planning Committee of the World Broadcasting Unions’ International Media Connectivity Group and moderates panels on broadcasting technology. He also advises on captioning, subtitling, and ultra-high-definition television.
