About
Jeffrey E. Holmes is a partner and lead trial litigator in Birmingham, Alabama, whose practice combines business law, commercial disputes, and corporate counseling. He represents clients in telecommunications, health care, mining, and hospitality. His work includes business transactions, intellectual property negotiations, environmental matters, and employment advice. He draws on experience as both a trial lawyer and corporate counsel when addressing business decisions that involve legal and regulatory risks.
Jeffrey earned a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1981 and a J.D. from Cumberland School of Law in 1984. He later received an M.S. in Engineering Science & Mechanics from the University of Alabama in 2007. This mix of legal and technical education supports his work with technology issues, environmental evidence, business operations, and disputes requiring close review of specialized information.
Jeffrey clerked for U.S. District Judge J. Foy Guin, Jr. in the Northern District of Alabama before spending nine years as in-house counsel to a Fortune 500 company. He entered private corporate practice in 1996. His experience includes technology transactions, environmental audits, agency enforcement responses, and developing technology-based evidence for proceedings. He has also managed asset deals totaling $23 million involving telecommunications, wholesale supply, and software businesses.
Jeffrey E. Holmes also advises employers on Title VII, wage and hour rules, disability laws, executive-order compliance, and workplace policies. His representation spans litigation, negotiations, and the day-to-day legal questions that arise in operating a business. Through work in courtrooms, corporations, and regulated industries, he brings several perspectives to disputes and commercial decisions. His practice connects legal analysis with the operational and technical circumstances behind each client’s matter.
