During his time as a prosecutor, Jay fully litigated approximately 80 jury trials to verdict and managed thousands of additional cases that resolved before trial. This early experience built a strong foundation in trial strategy, evidence evaluation, and persuasive argument. In 1984, he established a private practice, where he expanded his focus to include bankruptcy and business litigation matters while continuing to represent clients in criminal cases.

In addition to private practice, Jay K. Nixon served as a Chapter 7 bankruptcy panel trustee for cases filed in Walworth, Racine, and Kenosha Counties. His trustee experience provided valuable insight into financial restructuring and debt resolution.
